“I have always been an essentially joyful and exuberant person, which is somewhat of a surprise, considering that I have struggled with Bipolar Disorder since I was about 17. Although I have certainly seen dark times, I have for the most part chosen to embrace the blessing of being Bipolar much more than the curse. It has been an undeniable source of creativity, empathy and intuition in my life and I’m very grateful for that.

As an artist, it has drawn me to the metaphor of darkness and light, that light is available to us in any situation if we only have the courage to look for it. In my work I map emotional terrain within layers upon layers of paint, using deep marks, lines and texture to add to the complex history beneath the surface of my paintings. I will then sand or scrape back these layers to reveal the mysteries waiting underneath. I believe this process represents the idea we are all made perfectly imperfect by our wounds and shortcomings, and through these imperfections lies the light and beauty of our souls.”
