Ellen Cooper – Painting the Portrait - Intensive Workshop
At Heron Crest Studios July 7 – 13, 2019
Description of Workshop:  This 6-day workshop is designed to provide a solid foundation in the process of painting a portrait from the model from start to finish. Topics covered are the tonal study/grisaille, what goes into achieving a likeness and facial expression, creating form and dimension in the light, improving observational skills to see color and value relationships. We will also address the pose, lighting, background and composition. Demos will include accuracy of proportions and drawing, the individual facial features, how to organize and use the palette of colors and how to mix luminous flesh tones.

Six days of 6 hours per day painting from two models, one model and one pose for the morning session, second model and one pose for the afternoon session. This is a well organized, comprehensive workshop that is limited to a small class size to emphasize a friendly collegial atmosphere, individualized instruction, and one-on-one feedback at your easel. Demos, time for discussion, and question and answer are built into the workshop.

There is no wheelchair access at this facility – no elevator or lift.
